Osborn Lange Inc., serving you since 1898

Randle 2000 Inc. - a sub-division of O&L Inc.

Osborn & Lange, insurance brokers and average adjusters, was started by three brothers named Osborn in Chicago in 1898. Thus the company has been offering service to the community for 105 years.

Many different types of insurance coverage have been provided to its clientele, for almost a century the specialty has been the oldest type of insurance, i.e, Marine. Marine insurance dates back to the early days of the 1700's in London, when individuals risked their fortunes to insure ships and their cargoes against the perils of the sea.

Marine insurance at Osborn & Lange was developed by Andrew Lange, a broker and average adjuster trained in New York, and by Cecil Barker, a broker trained in Toronto. An average adjuster, John C. Mann, opened Osborn & Lange Inc.'s first Canadian office in Montreal in 1927. In 1963, Cecil Barker retired and Harry Bennett became President and CEO with his head office established in Montreal. A. Norton Francis, a broker and John A. Cantello, an average adjuster from England soon joined him.

The years that followed through to the early 1980's were the heyday for the Canadian Lake fleets, many of whom were clients, including Hall Corporation, N. M. Paterson & Sons and Canada Steamship Lines. While the company still represents its share of Great Lakes operations, its focus has shifted towards Quebec and Ontario based operators and East Coast fleets, as well as in expanding its commercial and personal lines books of business.

A young and capable team of marine insurance brokers, adjusters and general insurance brokers now service the company's large client base with ingenuity and hard work. Osborn & Lange Inc. looks forward to the future with confidence, applying the company's traditional values of client service with a 21st century approach.
